Claretian runs some of its operations in the building and provides wellness and other social services to tenants. The 2021 renovations included modernizing apartments, replacing heating and cooling systems with energy efficient mechanicals, installation of a new roof and landscaping and repurposing of the non-residential portion of the building. Amenities include a community cafeteria, business programs on the ground floor of the building for its residents and community members of all ages, day care center, laundry facilities, a playground, and an on-site recreation center with a swimming pool and basketball court. The teen drop-in space on the mezzanine level was chosen by the Illinois Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (I-NOMA) for their Design Build program through which teens can design their own space with the help of professional architects. The Salud Center hosts after-school basketball leagues and a wide range of recreational and educational programs as well as cultural performances, receptions and special events. South Chicago Salud Center & Senior Housing is less than 20 minutes from downtown Chicago and within walking distance of hospitals, grocery stores and other community amenities. Residents of South Chicago Elderly Housing enjoy direct access to public transit via multiple Chicago Transit Authority bus stops and the 93rd Street South Chicago Metra station.
