The current home was built by Samuel in 1903. At this time in history, Machias boasted a healthy economy and maritime trade fueled by wood products, ship building, and wild blueberry harvesting. Samuel was the son of William Crocker Holway, who along with his brother, Ladwick Holway were prominent local merchants. William and Ladwick Holway owned a center of coastal maritime trade, Holway Wharf, the remains of which are visible today along the riverside by this property. The Holway Wharf accommodated schooners and cargo ships essential to the area's lumber trade. The floating timber from the upper saw mills (upper Bad Little Falls) was then loaded at the wharf to be shipped along the Atlantic Coast. This is a rare opportunity to own a substantial riverfront property deeply rooted in our Machias history. Make this your home today!
